Many positions in the healthcare field require a minimum of four years of academic training beyond high school. If you’re like many people these days, spending several years pursuing a degree just isn’t a practical option. The good news is that you can receive the training you need to land a challenging position in the healthcare profession in as little as eight weeks!*
By completing the Healthcare Unit Coordinator program at Vista College, you can acquire skills that healthcare employers value in a minimum amount of time.
The Multifaceted Health Unit Coordinator Function
Working under the supervision of physicians or nurses, HUCs perform a number of important tasks in a medical environment including:
- Transcribing doctors’ orders
- Scheduling diagnostic tests and treatments
- Managing patients’ medical charts
- Managing and maintaining supplies for your unit
Depending on employer needs, duties may also include:
- Bedside patient admitting
- Healthcare records tasks
- Staffing functions
- Assisting doctors and nurses with implementation of Electronic Medical Records
Training that Meet Employers’ Needs
Your eight-week (160 clock hours) Vista College HUC training program will provide you with a solid educational foundation in all of these key areas. You will be trained by experienced and knowledgeable instructors who understand what it takes to succeed in a medical environment. By the time you have completed the short-term program, you will have acquired the skills and confidence you need to be an attractive job candidate to employers in hospitals, doctors’ offices, medical clinics and nursing homes.
After completing this course, you can apply for jobs such as Clinical Secretary, Unit Secretary, and Medical Coordinator. You will also be eligible to sit for certification with NAHUC.
We Take the Stress Out of Learning
At Vista College, we understand that training for a new career can be stressful, particularly if you’ve been away from an educational environment for a few years. In addition to having strong medical backgrounds, our instructors make every effort to create a learning environment that is stress-free and fun. We believe a higher student comfort level facilitates the learning process, which ultimately benefits students and employers in the long run.
